In November 24th Xiaomi event, the company has officially unveiled the long overdue Mi Pad 2 alongside the Redmi Note 3, which comes as a direct sequel to the original Mi Pad and sports significantly thinner design outside and much faster CPU inside. There are a lot of things to excite about Mi Pad 2 so, let’s jump right into the details.
The Mi Pad 2 sports full metal body with Ultra thin and light design. It measures 18% thinner than its predecessor and comes with just 6.95mm thin profile. It measures 200.4 x 132.6 x 6.95mm overall and weighs at 322g that is 38g lighter than the original Mi Pad. However, the overall design reminds us the iPad mini 4 including the placing of the Camera module. It packs 7.9-inch IPS LCD display with 2046 x 1536 pixels resolution that can make 326PPI. Under the hood packs, Intel X5-Z8500 Quad-core CPU clocked at 2.24GHz per core. It is Intel’s brand new chipset fabricated on 14nm just like the Samsung’s Exynos 7420, Exynos 8 Octa 8890 and Snapdragon 820 chipsets.
The Graphically intensive tasks will be taken care by Intel HD graphics, and both CPU & GPU have been backed up by 2GB LPDDR3 RAM for smoother multitasking. There is a 16GB/64GB eMMC flash storage for superior data transfers.
The imaging department has packed 8MP rear shooter along with 5MP Selfie shooter. Xiaomi has integrated USB Type-C port for faster charging and data transfers, the Wireless connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11 ac, Bluetooth, GPS with a-GPS. The tablet packs larger 6190mAh battery, Xiaomi claims 648.8h Standby and 100h of Music Playback along with 12.5h of Reading and Video recording times. The Mi Pad 2 will come in two color options – Dark Grey and Champagne Gold.
Xiaomi has also announced during the event that Mi Pad 2 will also come in Windows 10, but the official release shows the Android 5.1 Lollipop (MIUI 7 on top) OS. Xiaomi didn’t reveal any particular information like whether they will ship the tablet with Android or Windows or with a Dual boot option. We have to wait for official word on it. On the other hand, the earlier reports are indicating that the 16GB version will be coming with Android Lollipop pre-installed, and 64GB version will run on Windows 10 but as we mentioned earlier, nothing has been confirmed so far. One thing is sure that we should see Mi Pad 2 running on Windows 10. We have also heard that this Windows 10 version will come with Microsoft Office suite for better productivity.
