Samsung had announced its latest upgrades in its smart wearables portfolio named as the Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic back in September at IFA, which are now available in the United States through major online retailers for a respective price tag of $299.99 and $349.99.
On the spec front, the Galaxy Gear S2 flaunts a 1.2-inch Circular Super AMOELD display with a resolution of 360 x 360 pixels. The smartwatch embedded with a home and back buttons and a rotating bezel. Furthermore, the wearable is backed by a 512MB of RAM and 4GB of on-board storage. Source
Both the smartwatches are being certified (IP68) for dust & water resistance and also support built-in wireless charging. Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v.4.1, NFC and will work with most Android devices running on Android v.4.4 Kitkat and above. Also, the Gear S2 3G model is having an extra functionality like voice calling feature via its e-SIM. Under the hood powered by a 300mAh battery for the 3G version and a 250mAh battery for the standard one.
With the new Gear S2 series, you can get hold of your upcoming meetings, calls, and texts. The new S health calculates the heart rate and counts the number of steps and calories burnt for the day. The gadgets even support some Health & Fitness apps like Nike health+.
Samsung has also released the Gear Manager app for the non-Samsung smartphones to use the latest smartwatches from the company. The Android device should be running on Android 4.4 or latest and 1.5GB of RAM or higher to support the application.
Pricing and Availability:
The Samsung Gear S2 comes in Silver and Dark Gray variants during the Gear S2 Classic available only in Black color option. The Gear S2 (Wi-Fi model) and the Gear S2 Classic are priced respectively at $299.99, and $349.99, the 3G version of Gear S2 will be available soon.
