Microsoft Office Now on Android

Breaking News: All those people who wished to see their favorite Microsoft Office Application on their Android Phones, congratulations! your wish has been granted! Yes you heard it right! Microsoft today released MS Office applications such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint for Google-backed Android smartphones.

This move by Microsoft is cleverly based on the company’s strategy to make its applications accessible from a broad array of devices as services in the Internet cloud.  With this Microsoft hopes of making its Office applications available on all major mobile platforms, as it would inspire more people to subscribe to its online Office 365 service.

“I’m pleased to announce the general availability of the new Word, Excel and PowerPoint apps for Android phone,” Microsoft Office team corporate vice president Kirk Koenigsbauer said in a blog post. “These join our previously released Office apps for Android tablets to complete the Office experience for the millions of Android users around the world.”, he added.

The apps, now available for free on Google Play Store, were first introduced for Android Phones in Preview state in May, asked users to first sign up to the community of Microsoft Office for Android for testing the apps. These apps were then launched privately in Beta state for Android Tablets, back in July last year which were then brought to Preview state in January this year, and then finally released for public later that month.
